BSPs provide the basic OS services for a specific microprocessor and peripheral design configuration, especially development related services such as boot loaders, flash utilities, embedded monitors, network stacks, and shell processes. A robust BSP is essential for expediting the development handoff from hardware to software engineering. It validates the hardware is working properly and allows the software team to begin efficiently testing and modifying code.

Most major RTOS vendors offer BSP kits for a variety of supported microprocessors and third party reference designs. These BSPs often require cumbersome modification to work on custom hardware. When an RTOS is not used a BSP must be written from scratch.

Deferring BSP development tasks to the last minute stalls progress. eES manages BSP development and integration in a timely fashion insuring all compatibility and configuration issues are resolved coincident with hardware availability.
